Skye Book Review – Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel Pink

What is it that motivates us?  Many believe we are motivated by the chance of gain and the anxiety of loss.  Is it the proverbial “carrot” placed in front of our nose that will compel us to succeed?  Daniel Pink challenges this theory in his new book, trusted tablets Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us.

There is a great click here short video on YouTube that provides an introduction to the concepts in the book.  Pink draws research from many sources including sociology, economics and psychology to offer understanding of what truly drives us to succeed.  He explains that, once our basic needs are taken care of, it is the ability to grow and develop personally that will truly drive someone to success, and that awards and accolades without growth potential can actually significantly reduce the capacity of workers creativity and problem-solving skills.

Pink not only applies this theory to business, but to personal matters as well.   This is a great motivation resource and a book I definitely recommend!
