Why Having a Work Bestie is Just Like Your Favorite Song
We all have that one song that never fails to put us in a good mood, makes you want to dance (and sing out loud). For me, it’s “Happy” by Pharrell. It never fails to put a pep in my mood. Were you aware that having a work bestie can give you that same feeling of joy and excitement?
Just like a favorite song, a work bestie can provide comfort, motivation, and a sense of belonging. They’re the person you can turn to for a quick laugh or a supportive word when you’re feeling down. And just like a great song, they can make even the most mundane tasks more enjoyable.
In our new book You, Me, We. Why we all need a friend at Work (and how to show up as one!) my work besties Eric Spencer and Ruby Vesely take you on a journey to develop your Ally Mindset and how to cultivate the relationships and friendships at work that ensure your success.
It’s Quality not Quantity
One question we are often asked is whether having a best friend at work is exclusive, that the intent is that we have ONE best friend. The answer is a resounding NO! We’re the proof, three best friends where 1+1+1= magic. Where we are #bettertogether
When it comes to friends at work it’s quality not quantity that matters. Start with being one. Start with having one, and go from there. You have the full music catalogue of friends open to you!
Just like there are different types of songs, there are different types of work besties. Some are like “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra – timeless and classic, always there when you need them. Others are like the Elgar Cello concerto – complex and dynamic, challenging you to be your best self (two more of my favorite pieces of music.).
Who’s Your Work Bestie?
No matter what type of work bestie you have, they’re an essential part of a happy and productive work life. So take a moment to turn the friendship music up LOUD and give a shout out to your work bestie today. Let them know how much they mean to you. After all, they’re just like your favorite song – always there when you need them, and never failing to make you smile.
Strong connections and friendships make for a happier work and life. Let’s be #bettertogether.
